We are essential to Queensland’s energy transition
As the owner and operator of Millmerran Power Station, we are one of a small number of independent coal generators in Queensland.
For the past two decades, we’ve been providing homes and businesses with reliable, base load electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The location of Millmerran’s connection to Queensland’s power grid means our plant can also provide the system strength needed to safely facilitate the connection of 2,500 megawatts of renewable projects like wind and solar power in the Darling Downs region. This would not be possible without our plant’s firming capacity.
Our large landholding in the Millmerran district and potential to develop our own wind and solar resources could also see our site transition to a renewable energy hub in the future.

Most employees live close to home
Millmerran Power Station is located 230 km west of Brisbane, near the town of Millmerran. It’s within driving distance to Toowoomba and other key regional centres.
We employ around 135 people, who either work at our Millmerran plant or in the Brisbane office. We also have a regular contract workforce of about 65 people, which increases to more than 500 on-site during scheduled maintenance outages
Genuity also owns the adjacent Commodore Coal Mine. This open-cut, black coal mine produces around 3.6 million tonnes of coal each year exclusively for Millmerran Power Station, keeping it running 24/7. Commodore is operated by our contract miner EPSA, which has a workforce of about 140 employees.
We care about sustainability and efficiency
Genuity’s investment in super critical boiler technology has made Millmerran Power Station one of Australia’s lowest emitters of greenhouse gases out of any coal-fired plant in the country. Our use of air-cooled condensers also means the plant consumes 90 per cent less water than conventional power stations. We are proud to be one of the first coal-fired plants in the world, and one of only two in Queensland, to use this dynamic combination of technology to reduce emissions and minimise water use.
We run our plant efficiently with coal sourced from the adjacent Commodore Coal mine, and more than 30 per cent of the fly-ash we produce is recycled. Our Millmerran site also features a mix of farming and environmental enterprises, including a large-scale forest regeneration project, to help offset emissions and support local wildlife.
To transform our business into a fully sustainable energy hub, we are assessing the potential to build a wind farm and battery energy and storage system on-site. Local stakeholder engagement will be a key factor in any final investment decision, and we remain focussed on developing projects that align with existing land uses.

25 years in Queensland and counting
Genuity, previously known as InterGen, has long been associated with reliable and efficient power generation in Queensland.
In 1999, InterGen engaged Bechtel Power to build an 850-megawatt coal-fired power station outside the town of Millmerran in Southern Queensland.
As part of the project, a 98-kilometre pipeline was built to transport wastewater from Toowoomba to the plant. An open-cut coal mine was also developed on-site to supply the fuel needed to generate power 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The historic opening of Millmerran Power Station in 2003 marked a new phase of reliable power generation in Queensland, creating hundreds of new and ongoing jobs and business opportunities.

Looking ahead
More than 20 years later, Genuity continues to seek opportunities to generate reliable and sustainable energy for future generations of Queenslanders.
This includes investigating the potential to add a wind farm and Battery Energy and Storage System (BESS) to our Millmerran operations. This could broaden our capacity to meet Queensland’s increasing energy needs for decades to come.
